the new massive attack video is just as expected: brilliant. indeed, i do not find the link between the song and the video, but how it was made and the mood it has makes me not think about links anymore.
i love the song, is one of the best on the heligoland album and a brand new ep, called atlas air, will be released in november on virgin. the ep will also include a remix from clark. yes, warp-clark. can you imagine the thrill?
cgi ftw

Charanjit Singh - Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat
acid house… a long history of music, artists and production gear. but if we dig deeper into it’s history we find out some interesting things.
all this time we though that acid house was born in the mid ’80s, by accident, while dj pierre started playing with his 303 and 808, and then it basically promoted itself with a “small” help called josh wink and his higher state of consciousness.
but only a few days ago it was revealed that the real inventor of acid house was born and raised in the beautiful, charming and silky india.
yes, india!
Charanjit Singh is his name, and all he wanted to do was translate ancient indian classical ragas to the modern synthesizer. during that process he kinda invented acid house.
all this happened in 1982 and now it is known as Synthesizing: Ten Ragas To a Disco Beat
only a few copies of the original record we’re found and in march 2010 it was re-released. 19th of april will be the release date for the cd format.
the track is nothing more than a psychedelic indian ethnic flavoured sound wrapped up in house beats with strong acid vibes.
Release info
“The lost electronic masterpiece by Bollywood Session Musician Charanjit Singh.
While Kraftwerk was making catchy songs and the future inventors of acid House where still in primary school, Charanjit Singh explored the realms of abstract electronic dance music.
Early 1982, Singh imported with much effort the latest Roland synthesizers into India.
He had a vision of translating the centuries old indian classical ragas to the synthesizer.
With his Roland TR-808 drum computer he laid a basis of a hypnotic beat, with the TB-303 and the Jupiter sequencer he created acid house-like patterns.
On top of this he played the meandering melodies of ancient ragas.
With its repetitive beats and hypnotic electronic melodies the album sounds light years ahead of its time. Moreover, the 10 tracks make a consistent listen from A to Z.
Its restrained minimalism and lack of cheesiness makes it incredibly contemporary, sounding animated, fluid and unabashedly alive.”
